In addition to requiring a person to apply for a license to operate a tanning salon in Arizona, state rules also require that staff be properly trained. American Tanning Institute offers two training options:

According to Arizona tanning regulations, during operating hours of any business offering indoor tanning, there must be at least one operator knowledgeable in the
correct operation of the tanning devices used at the facility and able to inform and assist each user in the proper use of the tanning devices.

Each operator must be trained and records of training retained in the facility. Training must include:

1. The requirements of Arizona State Tanning Rules,
2. Procedures for correct operation of the facility,
3. Manufacturer's procedures for operation and maintenance of tanning equipment,
4. Recognition of injury or overexposure,
5. Emergency procedures in case of injury.
